If you haven’t caught Elizabeth Kay’s story yet, be sure to check out the Power40 podcast.
KIDNEY DONATION UPDATE: Hard to believe it’s been 6 months since my kidney donation. For those that might not know, my mother-in-law was in need of a kidney and I was approved to donate through the paired kidney exchange program. My kidney went to a stranger in Kentucky and hers came from an amazing donor in California.
I’m thrilled to say that she and I are BOTH doing amazing!!! Camille is back at work and her new kidney is functioning beautifully! I feel so great that I forget I even donated! The naps are fewer and fewer and my scars are healing nicely. My activity level and workouts are back to normal too.
I go back in for my 6 month bloodwork and urine tests in two weeks, but I truly feel completely like my old self. I’d do it all over again if I could. Neither of us have heard anything yet from our recipient/donor, but that’s fine. If we are suppose to meet, I believe it will happen. What’s most important to me is that my family is still intact and we still have my mother-in-law and she isn’t just surviving, she is THRIVING!!!
If you’ve been moved by our story, make sure to sign up to be an organ donor on your driver’s license or reach out to Donate Life America! Every 10 minutes another person is added to the organ donation list. YOU have the power to save a life. And if you want to know more info, please reach out. The more we talk about this, more lives we can save!
(this photo was taken 5 minutes before they wheeled me in for surgery at UW Health and I could hardly contain my excitement to donate).
