As the 12-year-old got into the car, she thought her mom was making it up.

“Haha, very funny. That was a very wonderful joke,” Naudia said. But then she opened the magazine and saw her name on the list.

“That was an amazing feeling,” she said.

Naudia, of New Berlin, made People’s list after writing a book in 2017 about her friend Linkin Eger, who needed chemotherapy to treat a brain tumor. The book, “My Friend Linkin,” helped them both learn more about childhood cancer.

“I was really happy for her,” said Linkin when he found out about People’s list.

In “My Friend Linkin,” you get to know more about Naudia and Linkin’s friendship. Since 2017, Naudia and her family published and sold more than 1,000 copies of “My Friend Linkin.”

Creating the book inspired the two of them and their families to start the nonprofit My Friend Linkin. The nonprofit has published five books and sold about 2,000 copies.

“Me and Linkin wanted to keep on writing books about children, because I like seeing people happy,” Naudia said. “We think that kids learn best about cancer from other kids.”

She and Linkin are now writing another book called “My Friend Itzel” about their friend’s relapse. The three of them met through a cancer support group, and had a teleconference call recently to get to know each other. They’ve been talking about normal kid stuff, like whether they like tacos or burritos, and their favorite ice cream.
