Jonah Larson, 16, was born in the small village of Durame, Ethiopia. A family adopted him when he was six months old and his new mom (left) and dad brought Jonah with them to La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Ever since the age of 5, Jonah has been obsessed with crocheting. He learned his first techniques from YouTube tutorials and he quickly became very good at it.

As he became better at crocheting, he began selling some of his creations on Instagram. But he didn’t keep the profits for himself. He decided to donate to the Ethiopian orphanage he was adopted from.

Soon, Jonah felt compelled to do even more. He set up a GoFundMe and raised over $49,000. There were 3 classrooms with no desks in the school. The kids would literally sit on the floor to learn. But the money was enough to build the first-ever library and a science lab in Durame.

“We have successfully filled 3 classrooms with desks for the children,” Jonah wrote on his GoFundMe. “In total, we’ve built the kids a library with books, a science lab filled with equipment, a safe and private 8-stall latrine for the girls, and most recently provided desks for 3 classrooms.”
