An experimental treatment appears to have been successful in halting the progression of one woman’s advanced pancreatic cancer, doctors reported. The apparent success of the therapy — which involves tweaking the genes of immune cells so that they attack tumor cells — could be a major step forward in the treatment of not only pancreatic cancer, but other cancers as well. “I think cancer research is going to pick up again and going to build on this,” said Dr. Carl June, who is director of the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy at the University of Pennsylvania. “The real question is not if but when this kind of therapy becomes a reality of curing patients with now lethal cancers.” Tap the link in our bio for more on this new research. ?: Kathy Wilkes
