Alex graduated college in 2017. Todd reached out to his brother, inviting Alex to stay in his home so Alex could be independent as well.

Alex lived rent-free for six months until Todd decided that it was time to charge his brother. But instead of keeping the payments, Todd opened put the rent money in a savings account.

When the time came for Alex to move out, he made an offer on a place near Todd’s. It was the perfect time to reveal the big surprise, so Todd called their parents to celebrate the milestone.

Todd and Alex’s parents knew about the secret savings account.

Todd went on to explain that those three years he was charging rent was actually going into that bank account. He opened it for Alex as he didn’t want his younger brother to experience the same financial struggles he went through.

“He didn’t just save your money. He put some money in, too,” Barbara added.

Todd went on to admit that he’d put $150 monthly on top of Alex’s “rent payments.” Todd says it was for Alex to use as downpayment for his new house.
