I accepted the Pay It Forward challenge through Kapco, and the first thing that came to my mind is a charity that is very near and dear to me. This charity is called Bo’s Heavenly Clubhouse which provides emotional support and financial assistance to parents that have a child with a congenital heart disease.

I know of one family in specific that has greatly benefited from Bo’s Heavenly Clubhouse. They are my dear friends Kevin and Kay Holbrook and their sons, Hunter and Mason. The donation was made through me, in honor of Mason. Through this donation, I hope that another family, during their own tribulations with their child, will receive the same comfort from Bo’s Heavenly Clubhouse.
Here is a little back story on Mason Holbrook: Mason was born on March 28, 2014 to Kevin and Kay Holbrook. Mason was born with a congenital heart disease. From day one, Mason fought for his life. In his first two years alone, he endured open heart surgeries and many more obstacles. Much of the next few years of his life was spent in and out of Children’s Hospital. When not in the hospital, Mason enjoyed playing with his older brother, Hunter, spending time with his parents and other family members, going to school and reading and watching comics and Disney. When Mason was five years old, he endured another open heart surgery. In April of 2020, Mason entered the hospital yet again due to complications of his heart disease. He was put on the list for a heart transplant. While waiting for a transplant, it was decided that a mechanical heart would be Mason’s best bet for survival until he received his transplant. Over the next several months more complications arose, and the disease ended Mason’s life on September 23, 2020 when he was just 6 ½ years old. Mason was a friend to all that he met, his smile could light up the darkest room and he continues to be a hero to all that remember him. I thank God every day for the health and wellbeing of my own family, and I pray every day that no other parent ever loses a child. R.I.P. Ironman Mason.
